RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS

Aside from Associational Conferences which the college has the opportunity of hosting on several occasions, there has been an Annual College National conference on Special Education.  This has provided staff of the college and other Special Educators the opportunity to present useful research findings relating to the needs of the handicapped annually. The proceedings of such conferences have been turned into books by the College. Such books published are:

  • (a)                 Current Researches on Special Education in Nigeria.

  • (b)                 Family, School, community and Government involvement in Rehabilitation of the handicapped.

  • (c)                 Art Creativity and Information links in Rehabilitation of the Handicapped.

  • (d)                 Science, Vocational and Technical Education in Rehabilitation of the handicapped.

  • (e)                 Two other books (The Exceptional child in the Nigerian Regular School and   Supportive Personnel in the Education of Exceptional Persons in Regular schools are being produced as products of the 1995 National Conference on Special Education.

  • (f)         Issues in Coping with Disabilities Published in 2003

  • (g)        Rehabilitation of the Disabled in Developing Countries      also Published in 2003

Still on research and publications and in search for excellence, since 1996 the College Management  has put in place:

  • (i)                   a Twenty-Five thousand Naira (N25,000.00) grant for the Best Academic Staff researcher of the year.

  • (ii)                 A minimum of Ten thousand Naira (N10,000.00) grant to any member of academic staff whose manuscripts are judged by external assessors as worthy of publishing and contributing to knowledge.

  • (iii)                A Twenty thousand Naira (N20,000.00) grant to each of the six (6) schools in the college to organise School Annual Public Lecture.  The proceedings which shall also be published by the College.

  • (iv)               The provision of furnished, air-conditioned research center in the College |Library for the academic pursuit of staff.

  • (v)                 Commencement of Production of textbooks and journals in Special Education by SPED PUBLISHERS, a new publishing outfit of the College.

  • (vi)               Initiation of collaborative programmes with institutions and organizations outside the country for collaborative research, publication, staff exchange and staff development and outreach programmes.

  • (vii)              A workshop on techniques in writing an Acceptable Research Proposal was jointly organized by the college Management and the Academic Staff |Union of the college in 1997, to acquaint staff with modern approaches to fundable research proposals.

  • (viii)            One of the journals being published by different associations or departments in the College had been adopted as an official journal of the college qualifying the journal for full funding and quality control by the College.
