FOCUS OF THE COLLEGE

The College has its main broad aims and objectives, the production of teachers of the handicapped and gifted bearing in mind the following:

a.        Production of highly professional, competent and committed teachers of the handicapped at the Primary and Secondary levels of the nation’s educational system.

b.       Undertaking a thorough investigation through research into the peculiar needs of the handicapped and the talented in the Nigerian society.

c.       Producing students with high level technological know-how that could enabled them to operate, maintain and repair specialized equipment and materials in special education;

d.       Producing a body of young professional ingrained with attitudes, values and interest compatible with the socio-economic environment of persons with special needs; and

e.       Encouraging the training of serving teachers through part-time studies as to upgrade their skills.

UNIQUENESS OF THE COLLEGE

The Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo as the only one of its kind in Nigeria caters for the Special Education needs of all the states of the country.

The College has the largest concentration of Handicapped persons as may be found in any of the tertiary institutions in Nigeria. As at 2001/2002 session, the College has 351 students with varying types of disabilities.
