BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF THE COLLEGE.

Pursuant to the realization of educational opportunities to all Nigeria Citizens without any form of discrimination as enunciated in the National Policy on Education, the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo known at its inception as Federal Advanced Teachers College for special education was founded on 15th October, 1977 with the broad objective of training teachers of the handicapped at the Primary and Secondary levels of the nations educational system.

Since its establishment 27 years ago, it has developed and recorded unequal achievements in the area of Special Education that no other tertiary institution in the country running Special Education Programme can match. In the 1999/2000 accreditation result released by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) the College still maintain its position as the only and best in special education. It is therefore appropriate to further empower the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo as to provide unique nationwide services for Disabled.

This should be so because the facilities, equipment, infrastructures and personnel on ground are quite unique and outstanding for the education and rehabilitation of people with varying disabilities, as well as providing the required resources for all stake holders in Special Education and the entire world.
